Women In Tech September 2017

Women in Tech returns after the summer break! This month we have a great talk from Sarah Cosgriff about how technology impacts young people, followed by an agile retrospective - if you've not done a retrospective before this is your chance to try it out!

As always, there'll be free drinks and food for all. Everyone is welcome and there are no tickets required. Just turn up - it's free!

Technology: An Opportunity or a Barrier for Young People?

by Sarah Cosgriff

Technology has provided multiple benefits to society: new ways of learning, job opportunities and changed our ways of living to name a few.

Young people tend to be perceived as great users of technology, but is it as accessible as we think?

Sarah will be discussing the opportunities technology provides young people as well as some of the barriers, from an employment and social perspective.  She will be using various examples to discuss both sides of the story, including the initiatives at The Prince’s Trust.

About Sarah

Sarah works for The Prince’s Trust, a youth charity that helps young people aged 13 to 30 to get into jobs, education and training. She trains staff on what STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) is and how to embed it into the various programmes. She is passionate about different ways of engaging various audiences with STEM.

An accomplished public speaker, we first saw Sarah speak at TEDx Derby last year. You can watch the video of her talk, Failing isn't Failure, here.

An Agile Retrospective On Women In Tech, The Meetup

The retrospective is one of the most important elements of any Agile development process, it is a mechanism for celebrating successes, acknowledging failures and then improving and optimising.

We will demonstrate the power of the retrospective by running a retro session on Women in Tech as an event.

As an outcome we'll all get to experience and participate in the retrospective session and we'll all get to work together to make WiT Notts a better event.

And there'll be post-it notes and sharpies galore!
