Our lives are all impacted by the COVID-19 Coronavirus and our collective efforts to mitigate its spread whilst doing our best to keep things running and keep people healthy and safe.

Tech Nottingham takes its role in this collective effort seriously, we are actively working to continue to provide our service to the local tech community and also to find new ways we can support our community as it deals with a great deal of difficult change.

Our Events in April will be online-only

With that in mind, both of our events in April - Women in Tech on Thursday 2nd April and Tech Nottingham on Monday 13th April will now be held online and not in-person.

April’s events will be sort of like this, but on a computer

We’ll still have speakers and amazing talks (Tech Nottingham’s talk in April is strikingly relevant) but we’ll also be using this as an opportunity to explore new kinds of content and ways of bringing people together that aren’t possible with an in-person event.

We are still ironing out the details in terms of tools and exact formats. We will be updating the event listings with all you need to know and we’ll be sharing details via the Tech Nottingham Slack, Twitter and our Mailing List.

It seems likely that our events in May will also be online-only and potentially events after that. We will keep you informed as the needs of the community become clearer.

Community Support

As more of our community are working remotely our online community on the Tech Nottingham Slack group is proving invaluable in ensuring people stay connected and avoid becoming socially isolated.

The Tech Nottingham Slack is a bustling community, there to support you

The Tech Nottingham Slack is a bustling community, there to support you

There are channels for discussing various technologies and tools as well as more relaxed channels for discussing the subjects people love, such as #bookclub, #coffee, #gardening, #tabletop and more,

When your routine changes it is easy for regular exercise to slip and now is a time when staying active is more beneficial than ever. Join the Tech Nottingham club on Strava and our #running and #cycling channels to help you stay motivated.

Our #remote channel on Slack has become a great place to share advice, ideas and ways to stay healthy and productive.

The first of the virtual coffee breaks, hosted on Zoom by Dylan Beattie

In that same channel, our community members and our team have been hosting regular virtual coffee breaks over video chat so we can step away from the day to day and spend a few minutes connecting with some friendly faces. Anyone is welcome to join in.

We believe in the power of communities like ours to support people in difficult times like these, we can see that happening every day, if there is any other ways we can offer support, do let us know.
